It takes time to get this far back in the Nez Perce National forest but it is a pretty trip any time of the year. All green with tall forest trees and meadows in summer and lots of white snow all winter long. Take a hike into a lake and spend the afternoon fishing.  You can drive to a couple of lakes if you have something for driving on backcountry dirt and rocky roads and others take 1 to 8 mile hikes. Most have been stocked with trout back in the 1950s.  Great areas for ATV riding trips For ATV events go to www.elkcitydustdevils.com

The pictures on this page are taken in the Nez Perce National Forest - Cabins are located in the Heart of the Nez Perce but it covers a large area of Idaho if you look at map. Lots of area to hike, explore, ATV ride, snowmobile, and hunt. Enjoy hiking, mountain biking, fly-fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and ATV trail riding, or just plain fresh air and scenery of the Rocky Mountains. Bring your own Kayaks for spring run off in Southfork of Clearwater. If you plan to see the backcountry plan to spend a few days - to explore in different directions.

The cabins are close to trails going into the Wilderness area and just a few miles off a National Recreation Trail going through forest. There are many trails in the Nez Perce National Forest and also in surrounding Wilderness Areas. Only a few minutes drive to Wilderness Trail Heads depending on which Wilderness. All lakes are located in Wilderness areas.  Wild horse Lake can be driven to with a high clearance vehicle from mid June to mid September.

Spring, summer and fall you can

Wild Horse Lake (you can drive to this lake during late June through mid September most years) click on to enlarge the picture.

Hump Lake (great fishing - July, August & September) located in the Gospel Hump Wilderness travel corridor so lakes can be accessed by motorized transportation if you are an experienced mountain driver with the right vehicle. Just a beautiful area to visit. Will be a great day trip from cabins as road turns into non maintained trail and it is slow and needs ATV or high clearance 4 wheel drive with experienced rock dodger driver. Or you can park at lower elevation and hike up or use your mountain bike on trails. Plan on leaving early and getting back late and you will have time for lunch by a lake while fishing and exploring. The Montana road is another great area to site see and walk into wilderness lakes to fish. For the experienced snowmobile rider this area can be ridden to in the winter and into the spring.
